Editing and Typesetting Guide

October 13th, 2008 by clay

A while back, we were talking about compiling an editing and typesetting FAQ or guide for new editors and typesetters. Somehow, I ended up volunteering to work on this… *sweat drop* The main goal of this guide would be to set out some general rules for editing/typesetting that are specific to Aerandria and to slightly ease the amount of questions that Lacaille has to answer for our new and in-training members.

So… I would like everyone to try and remember some of the questions you had when you first started editing or things that you remember Lacaille scolding you for. Also, if you’ve come across some helpful editing guides or other sites (fonts, patterns, etc.), I would like to include those as well. And as a final request, if you have any examples pages that do a good job illustrating common mistakes, I would like to include some visual examples as well.

Some topics that I’ve thought of include: what to do with page numbers, chapter covers, bubbles with only punctuation, anti-aliasing, using adjustment layers, etc. After, I’ve collected everyone’s advice, I’ll put together an outline for review, and start on putting together the final guide. And on a final note, if anyone has an amusing comment (or anything amusing on any of the topics), it would be nice to make the guide somewhat entertaining. (Anything to increase the chance that it might actually be read would help. ^_^)

Don’t be offended, lacaille… T_T *clay uses her best impression of adrift, “scold me more, lacaille.”*

We should include some tools we use in Aeran. Like the bubble filling thing. And probably a short explanation on how to use it. Or any other handy rotating/cropping tools. Cool actions that might be useful…. etc.
